after some (meager) positive response, i decided to actually do some work on this.
i've tried improving contrasts of colors, mostly, both to add shadow effects and to better define figures and characters in the picture. the effect wasn't completely successful, but it did improve several contrasts that i wasn't satisfied with, especially those on Orange Guy, Skeleton Man, and Blue Ninja.
the original was designed with the standard paint palette in mind, and thus rather than updating the original, i'm releasing this as a "V2." the original, after some consideration, i'm leaving completely intact; i feel it does have some merits the original doesn't. we'll see if either of them is worth taking a secondary look for the contest, of course.
here are the comments from the original picture:
...Orange Guy standing behind a plant with his tongue bandaged to Skeleton Man's skull.
Skeleton Man's surprised to see such a display of affection. then there's Blue Ninja and Red Sage. and the backdrop is the illustrious Purple City.
slight lack of caffeine.
done entierly in MSPaint using the standard paint palette. bit of a challenge for myself there.
watching and mostly waiving the copyright here, since this image created the characters, who themselves are simply par for the contest. do what you want with these guys so long as it isn't commercial and you at least mention me.
there's many things that are good for that same reason, and i'm proud to stand among them now. :3

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
I'm a lover of visual impacts. I like brilliant colors and shapes. And I decided to collect a whole stack of deviations that reflect that taste. These pieces showcased below deserve every bit of publicity you can give them. x)P
