I'm skirting away from my normal, non-capitalized typing style in order to put forward a more presentable, professional, and ultimately legible experience. Those of you who remember my previous journals should also be familiar with the fact that they felt much like dungeons in a badly unbalanced RPG, where every two or three steps one would be forced into a random encounter with the local Giant Walls of Text and their minions, Snarky Asides and Illegible Crap. I'm hoping that by using some furthermore proper punctuation, this problem will be solved.
Well, shit, just have a look at that last paragraph. May as well be business as usual, eh? Let's get to what matters before you all run away clutching your Phoenix Downs.
:: AatR ::
Some of you have no doubt noticed the AatR reference for myself in my gallery. While you're all snickering at the crappy background and sloppy hands, I'm sure you expected more. This is the part where I dash some hopes and dreams, sadly.
Due to time constraints that will hamper the quality of the product I deliver both immediately and in the future, I will be unable to enter AatR. A portion of this is laziness compounded upon procrastination, but if that were the whole of the case I'd still enter in the ideal that I would be promoting good habits by the attempt to produce and deliver on time. The true culprit is the fact that, at present, I'm what may be called "over-employed," holding one full-time and one part-time job that, combined, barely leave me much time for myself or my loved ones. If I am to take away from this time, I would rather do so for the joy of the art, rather than the stress of the deadlines.
I would not say I've put no thought into the matter, of course. My storyboard for my intro comic alone is six pages in length at present, with more desired. I'd consider it a shame to waste these, so I will pursue one of two options to utilize the work that's been done:
1. I will ask the powers-that-be at The Real if I could be allowed a non-competitive side-story in the land of The Real, in order to add further flavor to the world and hopefully produce a better competition overall by giving the contestants a little more to work with as to the NPCs. The ability to do so would be at the mercy and whim of the judges involved in AatR, and I will respect their decision regardless of which way the hammer falls.
2. Failing a non-combatant role, I will translate the story into an original comic based on the adventures of Red and Floof. Other characters, from other projects, are likely to make appearances if this comes about.
When I have heard word back from the judges I will update this journal. Until that time, stay tuned.
:: Other Comic Projects: House of Cards and Death Dealers ::
I don't suppose you thought I was ignoring my other projects, did you? Of the comics I'm working on, two are in some production at this time, enough to mention here.
House of Cards will be a story set in the Pandora Universe. A man and his robotic companion live in an airship to escape the turmoil in the town below. Meanwhile, ground skirmishes, government agents, mutants, and even aliens war both above and below, and an enigmatic cult closes in on the battlefield with its monstrous floating citadel, determined to remake the world in its leader's grand designs. It's just the calm before the storm.
Death Dealers (tentative title) follows the saga of the Kings of New Eden - a group of four powerful factions that rule the city. To keep balance, the kings rely on an espionage and weaponry expert and his specialist assistant. When one king grows too strong, the Fifth King evens the odds and ensures lasting, if dystopic, peace. Times are changing, however - and the time is coming soon where a little more help may be necessary to keep the peace, lest the Kings all be overthrown.
Both projects will be produced with 3D models and renders making up the panels. More will come as they further develop.
:: Games: BDGE ::
Of all the projects I have in development, BDGE is likely receiving the most of my attention. I've been busy noting Interactions (for the uninitiated, Interactions are interesting mechanics, objects, shapes, designs, or otherwise that I either see in the world or imagine up wholesale, recorded for the purpose of puzzle and level design), and as of present I've logged 21 unique Interactions, each with diagrams and some with possible uses. Since level design is still my weak point in game design, these interactions will likely be a major source of inspiration for my puzzles, if not THE major source. I may post some of my Interactions in the future if I digitally archive them.
Beyond that, I'm considering possible directions for the flow of the game as a whole. I'd really like to create multiple methods to complete levels, as well as paths and puzzles that appeal to different play styles, but I'm only so sure of exactly how well that will go over in the end. Sticking to strengths, perhaps, is better. Or perhaps the idea is just ambitious enough to be useful. I'll know when I've got some levels down on paper and some beta testers lined up (which is to say I won't know for some time).
Other projects will also be able to benefit from my Interactions, but are presently on the back burner. I'll keep you updated, of course.
That's enough of the big walls of text for today. Obliged on the read, ye faithful. Red out.
Sincerely,
- Red

Curious how things are coming along?
<~ THE QUEUE ~>
~ OPEN is a main project actively being developed.
~ RELIEF is a side project actively being developed, but with much less focus than the OPEN project.
~ ACTIVE projects are passively receiving development, usually storyline details.
~ CLOSED projects are NOT receiving development at this time, but may be reopened at some point. If they are worked on in any significant capacity or for any significant length of time, they will go ACTIVE.
~ To make it clear where my efforts are going, the OPEN, RELIEF, and first ACTIVE project are boldfaced.
